What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a holistic, hands-on approach to healthcare that emphasises the body's ability to heal itself. Using a range of techniques, including exercise prescription, joint mobilisations, stretching, and soft tissue therapy, osteopaths work to improve the function and movement of the body’s muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints.

Osteopathic treatment focuses on alleviating pain, improving mobility, and restoring balance to the body, whether the issues stem from injury, stress, poor posture, or daily wear and tear. By enhancing the body's structural balance, we help promote natural healing and restore optimal function.

At Azonic Health, our treatments are designed to promote overall wellness by addressing the underlying causes of pain and discomfort in acute, chronic and lifelong conditions.

Osteopathy vs. Physiotherapy: What is the difference?

Both osteopathy and physiotherapy are effective treatments for pain and mobility issues, but they approach care from different perspectives.

Physiotherapy typically focuses on rehabilitation from specific injuries or conditions, with an emphasis on exercise, movement therapy, and modalities such as heat or cold treatments. Physiotherapists aim to restore function, strength, and flexibility, particularly following acute injuries or surgeries.

Osteopathy, on the other hand, takes a more holistic, whole-body approach to health. Although Osteopaths also aim to regain strength, improve flexibility, and restore movement, they look at the entire musculoskeletal system and how the body’s structure impacts its function. While osteopathy certainly addresses pain and injury, it also considers how factors like posture, lifestyle, muscle imbalances, and even emotional stress affect the body. Osteopaths use exercise prescription as part of rehabilitation in home and gym settings, as well as a combination of hands-on techniques: including joint mobilisations, soft tissue therapy, myofascial release, and cranial osteopathy to treat not just the immediate site of pain but also the underlying causes that may be contributing to the problem.
